Zunery stopped walking.
“What is it?” Blades asked.
“It’s, it’s, I don’t know. I just don’t like it here,” he lied.
“Feeling nervous my man?” Blaine jeered.
“No, of course not. Blaine, you should know me better than that by now.”
“I’m just teasing. You’re always so stern, learn to take a joke.”
“Sage, what is this place called?” Zunery said ignoring Blaine.
“Epeglia, well that is the city that is south of here.”
“But where are we now, are these the plains of despair?”
“No, those are to the north of us. This place doesn’t really have a name.”
Desolation
“I’ve been here before.”
“Where you in the last battle?” She asked, not knowing it was not common knowledge.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Zunery lied. At this point they all knew something was being hidden from them. The brothers knew Zunery enough at this point to not press the issue. Sage did not.
“By the stars! You’re…”
“Yes, I am, let’s not talk about it.”
Silence filled the air as they continued on their way. Sage gained new respect for Zunery, understanding his past more intimately than before. Her eyes watered a single tear, and she felt ashamed for pushing to far.
He’s the hero, he’s the one that lived, could it be that he is also the fulfillment of the prophesy? She thought, almost audibly. She lifted her eyes enough to look around, thinking she had actually said her words out loud. Quickly noticing no response, she breathed a sigh of relief. Now she knew that she could trust him.
